Why Thornwick Bay Is One of Yorkshire’s Best Coastal Escapes
There’s something special about the Yorkshire coast, isn’t there? The sound of the gulls, the sea breeze, and those big open skies that seem to stretch on forever. Tucked neatly between Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs, you’ll find Thornwick Bay – a little gem of a place that still feels properly Yorkshire, full of character and charm.
We’ve always loved this stretch of coastline, and it’s why we chose to set up Lucky Paws Holiday Home right here. Our caravan sits within easy reach of the cliffs, the beaches, and all the sights that make this part of East Yorkshire such a wonderful spot for a relaxing getaway.
A Bay Full of Character: Love Thornwick Bay – Yorkshire’s Best Coastal Escape
Thornwick Bay itself is one of those places that feels like it’s been hidden away just for you to discover. The bay is carved into dramatic white chalk cliffs, with rock pools and little caves scattered around for exploring when the tide’s out. The coastal path above offers breathtaking views—you can see right across the North Sea on a clear day, and it’s a favourite walk for birdwatchers heading towards Bempton Cliffs to spot puffins, gannets, and kittiwakes.
There’s even a charming little café perched on the cliffs, perfect for a cup of tea or an ice cream after a walk. It’s proper Yorkshire simplicity — friendly faces, great views, and a good brew!

Peace, Fresh Air, and a Proper Break
Many visitors say what they love most about Thornwick Bay is the peace and quiet. You can stroll along the cliff tops, watch the waves crash below, and just breathe. It’s a place to switch off for a few days and enjoy the simpler things — a walk, a good book, or just sitting outside with a cuppa while the sun sets over the bay.
That’s exactly what we wanted Lucky Paws Holiday Home to offer – a comfortable, spotless caravan where couples and families can unwind. We keep it pet-free so that every guest can enjoy a fresh, clean space that feels like a proper home from home.
Perfectly Placed for Exploring: Love Thornwick Bay – Yorkshire’s Best Coastal Escape
One of the best things about Thornwick Bay is its location. Head south, and you’re in Bridlington in no time – with its classic British seafront, sandy beaches, and plenty of places to eat. Go north and you reach Filey and Scarborough, both full of seaside charm and things to do.
Closer to home, Flamborough village is just up the road. It’s a lovely little spot with a couple of welcoming pubs, a small shop, and that famous lighthouse at Flamborough Head. A few minutes in the car and you’re at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, which is well worth a visit for families and couples alike.
And of course, nature lovers can’t miss Bempton Cliffs, part of the RSPB reserve where you can see thousands of seabirds nesting on the cliff edges – it’s a sight you’ll never forget.
Holidays to Remember
We’ve stayed in plenty of caravans over the years, and we know what makes a great stay—comfort, cleanliness, and location. Lucky Paws ticks every box. The caravan has everything you need for a relaxing break, from a fully equipped kitchen to a cosy lounge area and a lovely outdoor space for soaking up the views.
We’ve designed it for people who appreciate the quieter side of life — clean, comfortable, and peaceful. After all, isn’t that what a Yorkshire coastal break is all about?
